Beautiful very rare niche vintage Egyptian Scarab Beetle necklace with real petrified scarab beetle preserved and mounted in an exquisite setting. Foil glass beads with breath taking colour. Divine necklace, one in a million piece.
The scarab beetle is so beautiful and their appearance change every time when you look at it from a different angle or as the lighting is changing. the stunning green colored shades don't come to justice in the pictures.
During the victorian times people were hugely interested in the natural world and the classification of insects, plants and animals. This blossomed with a massive revival of interest in all things Egyptian prompted by the opening of the Suez Canal (1869) and tomb excavations taking place in Egypt during the early 19th century. The scarab was a popular motif and readily incorporated into the Victorians' love of jewellery containing these real scarab beetles.
